In the heart of Châtel-St-Denis and its old town, the owners of this adjoining building decided to enhance the value of a family property. The existing functions were maintained, with an insurance company on the first floor and first floor, while the other 3 levels were given over to housing.
The narrowness of the building and the need to install a stairwell in compliance with standards considerably increased the difficulty of creating living spaces of contemporary dimensions. Nevertheless, it was in the use of the levels that the solution was found, with the creation of duplex apartments.
In order to increase the overall surface area of the building, and with the rule of roofs harmonized with neighbouring buildings, it was possible to create an additional storey. This is combined with the original floors to create the unity desired by the Canton of Fribourg's Department of Cultural Assets.
